“Change your thoughts and you change your world”. (Norman Vincent Peale 1898-1993).

Private Practice

In private practice I work with adults of all ages and backgrounds who bring a wide range of issues to therapy. I offer a tailor-made approach to build inner strength, resilience and compassion and to help improve relationships and foster healthy emotional and physical well-being.

Cultural and family stressors are a key component of my work. I have a specialist interest in mood and anxiety disorders and culture and shame-based emotional problems, which has led to research in the fields of shame, self-compassion and religiosity.

I provide therapy in English and Bengali and I work with clients for both the short and long-term. I also provide specific therapeutic interventions for stress management, confidence building and to enable adjustment following stressful or traumatic life events.

A key feature of the therapy I offer is to encourage greater connection with the body and mind, and I incorporate the work of Kristin Osborn, psychotherapist and Affect Phobia Therapy (APT) trainer based in Vermont and Massachusetts, USA.

My Approach

Engagement in therapy is collaborative and I aim to empower clients to work towards finding resolution and to achieve therapy goals.

I adhere to an ethical framework that advocates modern evidenced-based interventions as well as approaches drawn from cognitive, behavioural, attachment, experiential and psychodynamic principles. Occasionally and if considered beneficial I may use an integrative approach which draws on a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Affect Phobia Therapy (APT) and Schema Therapy.

Seeking therapy may not always be easy, the initial therapy session is an opportunity to discuss your reasons for considering therapy and find out more about me. An assessment will take place and a treatment plan will also be discussed, however you won’t need to commit to on-going therapy at that time and may wish to consider this afterwards.

About Me

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). I also hold membership with Experiential Dynamic Therapy (EDT-UK).

Alongside private practice I am a sessional therapist at a private central London hospital. I also maintain a senior role at a central London NHS community and inpatient service where I provide assessment and therapy for adults with severe and enduring mental illness. With over 10 years in the NHS I have vast experience of working with a range of difficulties and diagnoses. As well as clinical work I offer consultation and guidance for complex cases, staff teaching, training and supervision of psychologists and other healthcare professionals.

Throughout my career I have worked in a range of clinical and research settings including child and adolescent services, learning disabilities, substance misuse and brain injury. I have recently submitted an article in the field of shame, self-compassion and religiosity to a journal. Previously I have published in a book, journal and at conference.

I regularly attend clinical supervision and a monthly London based trauma supervision group. I highly value opportunities for career and professional development and I attend training events and conferences here in the UK and overseas. I hold an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check (DBS, previously CRB).
